DUH! IT’S A DISEASE!

THE LATEST IN EVIDENCE-BASED CARIES PREVENTION & INTERVENTION

Alumni Speaker Series

Friday, November 7, 2014

8:15am-11:15am (3 CE hrs)

Room 101-D

It is so frustrating to carefully treat carious lesions and see patients return with more lesions, even on the same teeth that have already been restored!  Dental professionals need to rethink how to manage this disease as physicians treat diseases elsewhere in the body.  A global movement is leading dental professionals to treat caries as a disease process and not just a series of individual lesions.

In this course, Dr. Maggio provides an evidence-based framework for changing our approach to caries. Specific guidelines are offered for prevention and minimal intervention.  Many clinical cases are presented, to apply this information to the daily practice of dentistry.

Course Objectives:

  • Assess caries risk and perform a systematic chairside dietary sugar analysis.
  • Apply and prescribe appropriate fluoride for patients at risk for developing lesions.
  • The indications and recommended regimens for chlorhexidine, xylitol and MI Paste.
  • When and how to place pit-and-fissure and interproximal sealants and how to remineralize white spot lesions.

Recommended for…Everyone.
