CONTEMPORARY CLINICAL PERIODONTICS AND ORAL IMPLANTOLOGY 2014

Thursday, November 6, 2014

8:30am-11:30am / 1:00pm-4:00pm (6 CE hrs)

Room 101-C

This course will emphasize the new trends and concepts in periodontal diagnosis and treatment planning. Using Biological Basis for Disease Concepts and enhanced with relevant clinical research, decisions for both non-surgical and surgical modalities of therapies can now be more predictable.

Advances in periodontal therapies will be included in this course. Ultrasonics, selective use of systemic antibiotics, local drug delivery systems, and periodontal surgical concepts have dramatically changed the scope of periodontal therapies. Case presentations will include non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapies, implant, site preparation and ridge preservation surgeries.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand biological basis for periodontal diseases.
  • Relate oral infections to systemic diseases and conditions.
  • Describe advances in periodontal treatment planning and therapies.
  • Understand concepts of periodontal and implant surgeries including regeneration.

The afternoon program will highlight the increasing problems facing dental clinicians in the new era of Implant Dentistry. Implant complications, failures, and peri-implantitis are quickly becoming a major clinical entity impacting on patient care and replacement of teeth with dental implants. Etiologies are beginning to be defined for peri-implantitis and predictable implant therapies for failures elude the profession. However, clinical approaches for implant rescue continue to be tested and will be presented.

Course Objectives PM:

  • Define peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.
  • Recognize the 4 primary etiologies of peri-implantitis.
  • Treatment non-surgical approaches for implant rescue.
  • Treatment plan surgical approaches for implant rescue.
  • Recognize the importance of implant maintenance.

Recommended for…Dentists.
