Direct Resin Composite Restorations:

A Useful Tool for the Multidisciplinary Treatment Plan

Friday, March 30, 2012

8:30 am - 3:30 pm (6 CE hrs)

The purpose of the lecture is to make a critical appraisal of modern materials and procedures in restorative dentistry, including dentin bonding agents, resin composites, and the step by step procedures for direct anterior and posterior restorations. Many different aspects of multidisciplinary treatment planning will also be discussed.

Adhesive technologies have contributed to change the way dentists conceive aesthetic restorations.

Due to the improvements of materials and techniques, it is now possible to perform minimal preparations and to restore aesthetic appeal and function with a low biological and financial cost.

Repairablity of resin composites is also highly appreciated as this allows restorations to be easily redone should the result not be perfect in the first stage.

Moreover, performing aesthetic dentistry is now one of the main goals of our profession. Patients are aware of the new technologies, and require treatments that are highly aesthetic, minimally invasive, repairable and not too expensive. Resin composite restorations can fulfill all these requirements. However, the correct protocols have to be implemented to achieve clinical success and to obtain invisible restorations.

Multidisciplinary treatment planning is most often the key to success: many patients need a combination of different treatments to solve their problems. It is extremely important to combine the skills of several specialists to establish the most constructive treatment plan so as to ensure the best possible result for the patient.

Benefits of Attending

You will learn a simplified approach to direct aesthetic restorations, using a reduced amount of composite masses.

You will also reduce the time needed for the restoration, and will understand when to use a simplified approach or when to take advantage of the multidisciplinary treatment planning.

Course Objectives

At the completion of the program, you should be able to:

  • know how to perform an invisible resin composite restoration in anterior and posterior
  • know how to choose between a direct or an indirect restoration
  • use fiber posts as a foundation for post-endo restorations
  • perform a simplified procedure for layering in anterior and posterior
  • understand the implications of a multidisciplinary treatment planning

The course is appropriate for general practitioners, specialists, and the whole dental staff.
