Venue/Travel Information

Here Ontario and the United States meet... their cultures blending in the waters of the mighty St. Lawrence and Great Lake Ontario. The native peoples called this region the “Garden of the Great Spirit.” Today, many people still remark that this gorgeous garden of woods and waters that is the 1000 Islands is truly one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Others will tell you its friendly atmosphere, fresh outdoors and laid-back pace makes the 1000 Islands a place that inspires the spirit and renews the soul.

From boat rides to hayrides to exploring the historical sites, the 1000 Islands Region is filled with fun things to do.

The Antique Boat Museum, “America’s freshwater boating museum…the finest collection of antique boats in the world,” according to Joseph Gribbins of Nautical Quarterly Magazine. This Mary Street Museum houses the largest collection of freshwater antique boats and engines in the nation. Visitors can stroll amidst the Museum’s priceless collection of over 200 boats. If you have a little more time, why not enjoy a speedboat ride and enjoy a first hand look in yesteryear’s fast lane, or take up the oars yourself in a wooden skiff and explore the shoreline of Clayton.

Does Your Patient Need a Biopsy?
Dentists are the practitioners most likely to detect pathological conditions affecting the head and neck region at a stage when they are most manageable.  Few dentists, however, regularly provide biopsy services for their patients.  This session will provide insight about what lesions to consider for biopsy, when to biopsy, and what types of biopsy techniques are most likely to yield a definitive diagnosis for your patients.

Name that Lesion!
How to develop a differential diagnosis for common pathologic conditions seen in the dental office, presented in a case-based format of real patients with real lesions from the UB archives.  What would you do for this patient?

UB Traveling Faculty:
John H. Campbell, DDS, MS, Associate Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Campbell’s clinical interests include surgery of the temporomandibular joint, dental implant site preparation and surgery, and surgery for pathology and facial reconstruction. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and as a site visitor of oral and maxillofacial surgery programs for the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Dr. Campbell presently serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Western New York Society of Oral and Maxillofaical Surgeons.

Preparation and Presentation of the Expert Witness
Mark F. Renner, Assistant Director for Public Safety, Indianapolis, Indiana will describe and discuss the law and procedural requirements pertaining to an Expert Witness.  Responding to Subpoenas, Requests for Production of Documents, preparation for Depositions, discovery and testimonial as well as preparation and presentation of Courtroom Testimony will be covered and discussed.

There will be practical demonstrations of real world situations and how to respond appropriately to those situations.

Many medical/dental practitioners may never have had contact with the civil or criminal justice system.  This course will give you information on the law applicable to you as a practitioner and how to respond when required.

You will learn the role of the expert witness, how you would qualify, the limitations and the benefits and how to use the system to your benefit.

The main objective is to take the fear of the unknown out of the legal processes.  As a practitioner you will know what to expert and will know what to demand of anyone seeking your expertise for the civil or criminal justice system.

You will have knowledge of the law as it applies to you as a medical/dental expert and you will have practical examples to use in responding to the system should the need ever arise.
