Oral Surgery Considerations for
the General Practitioner
Review antibiotic management in dental practice and the approach for
patients in need of bacterial endocarditis prophylaxis and whether
artificial joint prophylaxis is required. We will discuss management of
patients who take anticoagulants and platelet inhibitors and who require
surgical procedures. A discussion of the approach to oral lesions and
types of biopsies used in establishing diagnosis will be reviewed.
Lastly, we will review techniques for surgical extractions.
By attending, you should be able to:
Describe various antibiotic approaches for infection
management and prophylaxis.
Understand how to manage patients on anticoagulants
Know how to document and approach oral lesions
Better manage surgical extractions

practitioners, dental assistants and hygienists.
David Todd, DDS is an board certified Oral Surgeon in the Jamestown
area. Dr. Todd has served as President of
the New York Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and has served in many
capacities on committees for the AAOMS.
Case Based Approach to Oral
Surgery Complications
This talk will discuss
complications that can be seen with oral and dentoalveolar surgery. In addition
to discussing the range of complications, the intent is to provide strategies
for managing these issues. The goal of the talk is to help the general
practitioner gain additional experience and appreciation for handling unexpected
events that they may encounter when performing office-based surgery.

Role in Team Approach to
Complex Multidisciplinary Cases
When dealing with complex
cases, specialists in different fields of dentistry are usually
involved. The best results are achieved when we apply a “team
approach”...from the planning stages to execution of the treatment.
Periodontists will be an important team member, especially in the
treatment of patients with periodontal disease. We will discuss how to
build a treatment plan in these complex cases and how to use periodontal
treatment in order to achieve the ideal stable result.
At the completion of the
program, participants should be able to:

objectives of staging and grading system of the New Classification of
Periodontal Conditions
- See the impact of periodontal
condition on prognosis of the tooth and dentition in the complex treatment
planning
- Understand how to use

- Understand an importance of
Supportive Periodontal Treatment as a key component for a stable long-term
result of dental treatment

One Day Jaw Rehabilitation
for the Head/Neck Cancer Patient:
Prosthetic & Surgical Considerations
Learn about various options
for reconstructing the head and neck cancer patient, including traditional
graft and implant-free removable prostheses, implant-retained removable
prostheses and fixed implant-supported prostheses. A focus will be placed on
the One-day Jaw Rehabilitation technique with virtual surgical planning and 3D
printed prostheses which allows immediate grafting, implant placement, and
prosthesis loading at one surgical visit. Patient selection, benefits, and
complications of the procedure will also be discussed allowing practitioners to
identify patients who might benefit from immediate reconstruction.
