Alumnus of the Year 2010

Dr. Edmond R. Hewlett is a native of Los Angeles, California. He attended UCLA from 1972 to 1976 as an undergraduate majoring in Biology, and in 1980 received his D.D.S. degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry. He then completed a 1-year general practice residency program at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago. Returning to Los Angeles, Dr. Hewlett joined the UCLA School of Dentistry faculty in 1982 as a lecturer (part-time). In 1987, Dr. Hewlett was appointed to the full-time academic faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Section of Operative Dentistry, and promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1994. In February of this year Eddie received committee approval and in July he will be promoted to Professor. Dr. Hewlett is a past Division Chair of Restorative Dentistry at UCLA, and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Division. In June, 2003, Dr. Hewlett completed postgraduate training in Prosthodontics at UCLA and was awarded a certificate in this dental specialty.

Despite new  high-tech technology, directly-placed resin restorations still comprise the core of restorative treatment in the general dental practice. It is more important than ever to offer the esthetic and cost-effective options that patients want while delivering them efficiently and ensuring predictability.

This lecture and HANDS-ON course will provide training in the optimal selection and use of today's materials. Several time-saving techniques for producing durable, highly esthetic direct restorations will be presented. Minimally invasive techniques that can be used to differentiate you as an innovator in new dental practices and materials  will be discussed and demonstrated.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES/BENEFITS TO ATTENDEES:

1.    Understand the criteria for selection and use of current adhesives and restorative materials.
2.    Learn efficient techniques and time-saving tips for producing anterior direct-bonded restorations with lifelike beauty and invisible margins.
3.    Learn the 'sandwich technique' for placing large posterior composite restorations in less time and with no post-op sensitivity.
4.    Understand techniques that help you provide 'Minimally Invasive ' services.
